Leaky Pool Light Niche & Main Drain Repair

Location: Bradenton, Florida

Challenge: On a very cold January day (low 40s with visible breath), this homeowner noticed water seeping from the pool light niche and slow drainage issues tied to the main drain. The light niche seal had failed, allowing water to leak behind the fixture and into the conduit, while the main drain assembly had developed a small crack and poor seal, causing slow loss and potential long-term damage to the pool shell and surrounding deck. Working in freezing conditions added extra difficulty — tools were cold, fingers numb, and condensation complicated camera work — but we pushed through without delay.

How We Solved It: We started with Leaktronics high-definition underwater camera inspection and dye testing to confirm both the light niche and main drain as active leak points.

On-site, we removed the pool light fixture, cleaned and re-sealed the niche with marine-grade epoxy and new gasket, pressure-tested the conduit line, and verified no water intrusion. For the main drain, we disassembled the grate, repaired the cracked housing and seal, re-bedded it with proper sealant, and performed a final multi-zone pressure test to confirm zero leakage from either source.

Result:

  • Both leaks fully sealed — no further water loss

  • Pool light and main drain fully functional and watertight

  • No damage to surrounding deck or shell

  • Project completed same day despite cold weather
